The definition of unacceptable, MLB expert BASHES Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugos performan
Seems like the New York Yankees are in for a rude awakening as the team’s inconsistent performance in the regular season games has fans and pundits on the edge of their seats. They are enraged as the team recently blew their chance to re-take the AL East lead position after embarrassingly losing against the Baltimore Orioles with a 5-6 record.
Their latest loss was majorly due to Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo’s mistake as both misplayed their roles on the field. Verdugo missed a routine fly ball during the ninth inning with bases loaded to blow a three-run lead.
Volpe on the other hand, botched a hit by Orioles’ Ryan Mountcastle as he failed to throw the ball back to second base on time. Although both players took accountability for their errors, the fans and pundits were ruthless in their judgment. ‘Yapping Yankees’ podcaster Mike Scudiero commented how their mistake was “inexcusable” and “disgraceful”.
Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo are inexcusable. To say that’s the definition of unacceptable is the understatement of the century…What a disgraceful loss.Mike Scudiero on X.
Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo are inexcusable. To say that's the definition of unacceptable is the understatement of the century. Volpe booting another routine grounder in a big spot, and Verdugo's legs just literally stopped working. What a disgraceful loss
— Mike Scudiero 🎙 (@mikescudiero) July 14, 2024Scudiero further criticized how Alex Verdugo’s legs “literally stopped working” and Anthony Volpe booted “another routine grounder in a big spot.” The team failed to boost their spot for playoffs before they head into the 2024 All-Star Game.
Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo hold themselves accountable for Yankees loss
Apart from Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo’s mistakes, the NY Yankees pitcher Clay Holmes’ wobbly performance handed Baltimore Orioles Kyle Stowers a lead-off hit. However, the highlight of the loss remains pinned on Volpe and Verdugo.
As per NY insider Bryan Hoch, Verdugo had his head down with elbows on his knees as he exclaimed, “This one’s on me.” The 28-year-old said that he takes a “lot of pride out there defensively” so he can’t forgive himself for the costly error. Volpe on the other hand noted,
I didn’t move my feet. That’s a routine ground ball. Good infielders move their feet to get a good hop.Anthony Volpe as per Bryan Hoch on X.

— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) July 14, 2024Volpe is “still processing” the Yankees loss. Manager Aaron Boone on the other hand commented how ‘Dugie’ misread the ball stumbled and fell right in front of him. He noted,
I think he just misjudged it, broke hard in, not wanting to get beat in front of him. Obviously, it carried enough.Aaron Boone as per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

— YES Network (@YESNetwork) July 14, 2024This 5-6 loss will sting the New York Yankees quite a bit as they end their first half run of the regular season games. Boone believes the players need a break both physically and mentally and the All-Star will provide just that.
They will also need to add a good list of players both offensively and defensively during the trade market to change the current rotation. Unfortunately, the current roster has failed to achieve consistent victory records and a change needs to be done to secure playoff chances.
