She was raised in the Bronx River Projects, a low-income housing area in the Bronx.
Medina’s father was addicted to drugs while she was growing up, so she didn’t get to see him much and was raised, alongside her five siblings, by her mother. Her dad has now recovered from his crippling addiction.
While growing up, Medina spent lots of time with her large extended family. She was very close to her grandmother and was crushed when the latter passed away.
