LONDON (CelebrityAcccess MediaWire) — Like a phoenix rising anew from the ashes, the legendary Marquee Club will once again open its doors for business.

The storied club has had numerous incarnations since it first opened for business in 1958, playing host to a range of jazz and Skiffle acts that were enjoying a rennaiasance in the UK at that time. The club subsequently played host to a who's who list of major touring acts in the sixties with bands like The Moody Blues, The Who, Yes, Jethro Tull, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Pink Floyd all holding residencies. The club also never shied away from embracing new innovations, offering a stage to early punk and new wave acts like The Sex Pistols, the Buzzcocks and The Stranglers.

The club served as one of the mainstays of the progressive rock scene in the 80s and the club became a popular place for bands to do "secret", little-publicized gigs as warm-ups at the start of a tour.

The club went through six iterations, changing locations and owners frequently until being purchased by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics who built a new building for the club in Islington in 2001. The club then went dark again in 2003, enjoying a brief resurrection in 2004 before folding once more.

The latest incarnation of the Marquee is in the heart of downtown London at 14 Upper Saint Martins Lane. The split-level club's new owner is Nathan Lowry qho acquired the name from Stewart and his business partner Mark Fuller. The club will be showcasing live music and has already hosted a private event by Australian alternative rock band the Basics and local indie act Marner Brown. The doors officially opened on Sept. 7th with performances by Black Hand and Hogg. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
