F1 pundit claims Max Verstappen was livid with Red Bulls ridiculous strategy at Hunga

The reigning world champion, Max Verstappen has not been having the best times in F1. Hungary proved to be another disappointment as he ended his outing in fifth place. To make things worse, he had a heated radio back-and-forth with Red Bull.

A lot has been said about how the Milton-Keynes-based team dealt with Max Verstappen during the 70-lap race. The latest to join the list is the renowned F1 pundit, Peter Windsor.

Max on the radio was absolutely livid on the radio today, and he said whatever came into his head about the ridiculous strategy. It was a ridiculous strategy that Red Bull had, allowing him to be undercut, every time he came out, he's having to pass or trying to pass Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes.

The days of dominance of the Red Bull F1 team are well and truly over now and the repercussions of this can be seen in the on-track action. Verstappen has not been in the best frame of mind after missing out on wins and the pressure is getting to everyone on the Austrian outfit.

Max Verstappen felt P3 ‘was on the cards’ in Budapest

While Windsor has ripped into Red Bull for how poorly they managed the race of the reigning world champion, Verstappen felt he could have achieved more than a mere P5. As indicated above, during the closing stages, the 26-year-old was in the hunt for P3 against Lewis Hamilton.

However, his daring move on lap 63 backfired as he went flying into the air.

Naturally of course that frustrates me because I want things to be done better because of course I’m realistic – today, we couldn’t have beaten the McLarens but a P3 I think was on the cards if we would have just been on it a bit more.

Following Budapest, it has been three races since Max Verstappen triumphed in an F1 event. Had this been 2023, it would have been considered a massive anomaly. All the top F1 teams have closed the gap to Red Bull and as things stand, the fight for the championship is quickly turning into a four-way battle.

From Verstappen and Red Bulls’ perspective, it is high time they get their act right with the lackluster RB20. Otherwise, more misery could arrive at the doorstep of the Austrian team in the remaining 11 races of the 2024 F1 season.
