Alexander Davis in downtown Boise closing its doors for good
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — After nearly a century and a half, Boise's oldest business will be closing its doors for good.
Alexander Davis, a store filled with luxury men's suits and shiny leather shoes, has been a favorite for many.
"Being able to come in here and know that you're going to get taken care of with good quality clothes that just make you look good in front of your co-workers and your clients, is immense, and it's stores like this that provide the services that I think a lot of folks like us need," said customer Eric Udvari.
Founded by two-time Boise mayor and Idaho governor Moses Alexander, the store first opened in 1891. It was passed down through the generations and into the hands of David Graves.
"I've had the privilege of waiting on 4 generations of family as they've had kids grandkids and that's been quite a ride you know," said David Graves, owner of Alexander Davis Men's Clothing.
Graves says his favorite part of the job is hearing the stories of his customers.
"You find a lot of things about people and what brings them here and what they do, and it's all been comforting and helpful," Graves said.
After nearly 40 years at the helm, it's time to call quits and retire.
"This is a legacy that won't soon be beaten, and this is something out of respect because the Alexander family gave me the opportunity to apply my trade and to flourish, and I've enjoyed every minute of that, and I'm looking forward to riding off into the sunset to enjoy some of my free time," Graves said.
